A DRIVER who killed his friend in a high-speed car crash after consuming a huge amount of alcohol was jailed for five years and seven months yesterday.
David Curry, 36, was still more than twice the legal drink-driving limit five hours after the crash. He told police he had thought it would be all right to drive after eight or nine pints as long as he wore a seatbelt.
He earlier admitted causing the death of Gregor Allan, 24, of Menzies Road, Aberdeen, by driving dangerously on 3 September, 2005. Curry, from Hazlehead, Aberdeen, also admitted driving without a licence and insurance and taking his father's car without consent.
At the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday, Lord Turnbull told Curry: "You caused the death of your friend Gregor Allan in circumstances which displayed an appalling lack of responsibility and care for the safety of others."
Curry was also banned from driving for five years.
